The Butterfly Storm - Now Available From Amazon

On the 12th June 2013 I published and launched my debut novel, The Butterfly Storm. Available as an eBook on amazon it has gone from strength to strength since then reaching #1 on the free kindle store during my first promotional weekend and then making it into the top 10 bestseller lists in literary and women's literary fiction in August.

So what's The Butterfly Storm all about?
Four years ago life for Sophie Keech was perfect. A new start in Greece with Alekos, her boyfriend of just six weeks, removes Sophie from a mundane 9-5 job, takes her away from the difficult relationship she has with her mum, and gives her the opportunity and belief that she is finally doing something positive and exciting with her life.

But a lot can change in four years. An engagement, a domineering mother-in-law to be and the reality of life in Greece not being quite what Sophie imagined puts a strain on her relationship with Alekos.

When an accident forces Sophie back to the UK to look after her estranged mum, she has time to re-evaluate her life, her idea of family, where she wants to be and, most importantly, who she loves.
The book has been really well received with 20 reviews on amazon.co.uk so far all giving The Butterfly Storm 4 and 5 stars. This is what people are saying about it:
'It is a lovely story of a relationship between a mother and daughter with some wonderful characters - especially Despina the overbearing, bossy, greek mama who always wants and expects to get her own way. What I did like was the edge of unpredictableness about the story - for a large part of the book you just don't know in what direction Sophie's life is going to go, or with who! The story moves at a fluid pace, and has an ending that definitely brought a tear to my eye.' 5* review

'Kate writes with passion and realism, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the setting, and the detailed and beautiful descriptions. The plot is absorbing, with a cast of fascinating characters and a healthy dose of "How is this all going to end...?". I didn't spot the end coming, and was absorbed by the emotional pull of Sophie's life and journey.' 4* review

'When so many people give rave reviews about a book I always have this slight fear that I'll be the one person who doesn't feel the same. But, on this occasion, all the previous positive comments were spot on and, now I've finished reading it, I'm left with a real sense of loss.' 5* review

If you'd like to read The Butterfly Storm then it's available on amazon.co.uk and amazon.com. You can also find me on my main blog Kate Frost - A Writing Life and you can follow me on Twitter @Kactus77

Dog Friendly Beaches in Norfolk

Frodo is now 16 weeks old and we've been taking him for walks in the local park for the last two weeks. He's still too young to go far and certainly not be let off the lead yet, but I can't wait to take him to Norfolk to run around on the beach.

Holkham Beach, North Norfolk

When I was growing up we used to spend every Christmas with my grandparents on their farm in North Norfolk, so I have many happy memories of the area. The beaches on the North Norfolk coast are unspoilt, and are wild and desolate in winter, with waves churning onto the shore and a bracing North Sea wind. I can imagine Frodo, our Cavalier, racing across the long stretch of sand at Holkham Beach, before we head back to the farmhouse and warm ourselves in front of the fire. Bliss.

Frodo

On Saturday 24th September we brought home Frodo, our 8 week-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Not only is he completely adorable, but he inspired me to write an article about buying a Cavalier puppy.

Take That at Wembley

85,000 people packed Wembley Stadium at Take That's concert on the 4th July. And although the average age of the crowd had to be 30+ and predominately female (of which I'm guilty), there were men, kids and families singing and dancing along to Take That's greatest hits too.

The potter's wheel

Yesterday I had my first go on the pottery wheel at Potstop. Six attempts plus a lot of mess later I managed to make a small, slightly uneven bowl that didn't collapse. It needs a lot of practice. Roll on next week.
